The Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF)
The RSNF was established to defend the security and integrity of the lands of Saudi Arabia and its regional waters in addition to the safety and security of the ships coming and departing to and from it, and to clean the water passages from mines.
Evolution and Development of the RSNF
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enjoys a distinguished geographical location. It is bordered by the Arabic Gulf from the east and the Red Sea from the west. Because of the long shores of the Kingdom, MODA started building a naval force with the mission of (defending the safety and security of the lands and regional waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). To protect the main sea ports and maintain the safety and security of the ships coming and departing to/from Saudi Arabia, clear the waterways leading to the kingdom ports from sea mines, patrols inside and outside the regional waters and search and rescue in the vicinity waters in coordination with the Air Forces and perform acquainting trips to the ports of foreign and friend countries.
In year 1395H, the actual implementation of the RSNF upgrade project started and it involved building of the basic facilities. In Zul Qidaa 1399, the first batch of the upgrade project ships arrived to the kingdom led by Saudi staff. The rest of the ships followed after that.
